In Memory of Seikichi Iha 1932 – 2024

Seikichi Iha, Hanshi 10th Dan, sensei of Original Okinawa Karate died on Aug. 3 2024. He was 92.

Seikichi Iha, Hanshi 10th Dan. Sensei Iha operated his dojo in mid-michigan since the late 70s. Born in Okinawa, Sensei Iha has taught traditional Okinawan Karatedo for more than 60 years all around the world (including Okinawa, Guam, the Philippines, and across the United States)…

Iha’s life was karate. He’d spent about 75 years learning and teaching the craft. It was everything to him, but it didn’t isolate him. Friendship, cooperation and balance is what he taught…”He would basically treat us like bonsai,” said long-time student Marian Reiter, referring to the Japanese art of growing small trees, which Iha kept in his yard.

May he rest in peace.
